10 Road Trip Movies

April 27, 2010 9 comments

I don’t remember if I ever wrote about the types of movies I like to watch.. macam ada, but I can’t remember. Basically I like to watch movies that are light and funny. Not too heavy, not dark nor depressing. But sometimes I still watch these films because they are good. Like the Green Mile.. that’s depressing, but good.

Anyway, recently I watch a movie on Astro (can’t remember which of those 3 movie channels) about a road trip, and I realize, apart from films zaman kuda (I call it), I also love road trip movies. I always dream of a road trip with closest buddies. A trip to Batu Pahat, with eating pitstop ala ala Jalan Jalan Cari Makan would be great.. kan J & K?

So today I just want to list out the road trip movies that are memorable and that I just love. Most of them may seem stupid and boring to you, but sometimes, the dumber the better.

ps: The list is in no particular order.

1. Fanboys – the boys are so bangang and kelakar.

2. Wild Hogs – oh, this one was so very hillarious. Tim Allen and John Travolta.

3. Stand By Me – This will always remind me of River Pheonix. And fat Jerry O’Connell.

4. Michael - Maybe most don’t know this movie. This is the one where John Travolta was an angel. But I love Andie MacDowell. You don’t see much of her.

5. Hangover – At first I didn’t want to watch it. But my friend made me. And boleh tahan kelakar.. and stupid as usual.

6. Pee Wee’s Big Adventure - Oh, this was my all time favorite masa kecik-kecik.

7. Thelma and Louise – Okay, who doesn’t know this kan. And no road trip movie list is complete without this.

8. Spinning Gasing – Why I like Spinning Gasing? Entah.. but it certainly sticks my head.

9. Road to Perdition – This is kinda dark. But I love mafia movie as well. I love Tom Hanks. I just found out it is based on a comic, which is based on a Japanese Manga.

10. Annie’s Point – I don’t really know if this is a film or one of those made for tv movie, but I love it. Betty White is great.

So, what’s your road trip movie? Maybe I should korek road trip movie melayu pulak.. ada ke? Mesti ada, kan.

Yasmin Ahmad’s Films Book

December 24, 2009 6 comments

In conjunction with Muallaf’s opening at local cinema, I thought I’d write about the Yasmin Ahmad’s Films book, written by Amir Muhammad that I bought recently.

So, why did I buy the book?

1. The author and publisher offered free delivery. Click, click.. buku sampai. No extra charge or movement. Sape tak nak..

2. The author would personally autograph the book.. sweet.

3. I have a soft spot for Matahari Books.. don’t ask me why.. maybe because I won one previously.

4. I haven’t seen all of YA’s films.. so I would like to know what they are about.

5. Those that I watched, I didn’t understand it all.

6. The sale would go to Mercy – Yasmin Ahmad Fund for Children.. which means, I’d be contributing to helping human kind indirectly.

Now that I’ve read it, what do I think?

1. I love it. It’s a keepsake. A reference. Something you can grab and start reading at any page.

2. It certainly helped me understand parts of YA’s films that I didn’t understand.

3. Gives an insight to her films and some commercials too.

4. Lets you in on things about the author, such as, eh dia dah pegi Umrah (totally trivia, but still).

5. Makes you want to go out and get all of YA’s movie.

6. Corrects the statement that most people say: Sh. Amani is the actress most seen in YA’s films. (If not her, who? Buy the book to find out)

7. All the more reasons to watch Muallaf, now it is out at the local cinemas.

Movies I’d Like to Watch

March 26, 2009 9 comments

Wow.. it’s been soooo long. There’s so much dust too, being collected here. Though I miss blogging so much, I don’t know why I haven’t done so.

And today, I’m trying to get the ball rolling again. Maybe it’s the memories of my Dad that’s been creeping up these past few days that had brought my fingers back to the keyboard.

Anyway, focus on the entry’s topic, I haven’t been to the movies for quite some time. I think the last movie I watched was Quantum of Solace. And this month, a lot of interesting movies are coming out. Hopefully I will able to catch some, at least by next week.

These are on my MUST watch list:

1. Confession of a Shopaholic – the first time I read the book, I knew it would be motion picture eventually. It has all the ingredients.. and I kept waiting for it to materialize. And now it’s finally here, no way am I gonna miss it.

2. Talentime – mom’s been bugging me to watch it. Might as well. There’s Jac in it.

3. He’s Just Not That Into You – I’m a sucker for Drew Barrymore. That’s it.

Okaylah, all my choices are membosankan. But I like free and easy movies. Hidup aku seharian dah cukup drama dan suspens dll.

7 Sebab Kenapa Tgk Wayang Sorang Syok

October 7, 2008 10 comments

1. Boleh pilih je cerita apa aku suka..

2. Tak payah pikirkan pasal orang lain nak gi toilet ke apa

3. Kalau beli last minit pon mesti ada lagilah tiket.. yelah untuk sorang

7. Kalau tgk sorang, biasa aku tgk pagi. Masa tu mesti panggung kosong. Lagilah best. Macam charter satu panggung.

Korang mesti tak penah tgk wayang sorang kan? Sbb conscious. Hahahah. Tapi ada gak tak best tgk wayang sorang ni. Salah satunya, kalau terserempaklah pulak dengan ex (atau sesapelah korang tak nak jumpa), rasa macam loser plak tgk wayang sorang. Menyampah plak tgk muka dia macam menyatakan, “Kesian…”. Hish!

5 Movies I Can Watch Over And Over And Over Again…

April 16, 2008 12 comments

1. Ali Setan
So, reminds me of the eighties… and when Ogy Ahmad Daud was a sweet young person. Not full of “subtext” “context” “kena gali maksud dia” whatever crap.
Quote: Jangan todoh-todoh…

2. Empire Records
This was a favorite movie when I was in Melaka. We watched it, like the title says lah.. Over and over and over and over agian. Serious, sampai rosak menatang tu.
Quote:  Just another tasty treat from the gang at Empire Records.

3. Lilo and Stitch
Oh, I cry every time I watch this. Kinda silly, especially since it’s CARTOON!
Quote: “Ohana” means “family.” “Family” means “no one gets left behind.” But if you want to leave, you can. I’ll remember you though.”

4. Jerry Maquire
Oh, tell me who doesn’t love this one. Aku memang perempuan yang mushy-mushy.. hahah.
Quote: “I pretended that proposal part at the car was real, and it might have just been a hypothetical, I did this… and at least I can do something about it now.”

5. My Best Friend’s Wedding
Baju-baju Julia Roberts dan Cameron Diaz sangat cantik. Saya suka. But I think the real jerk of the movie Dermot Mulroney. It is still a great movie. And of course Rupert Everett was the show stealer.
Quote: Crème brûlée can never be Jell-O. YOU could never be Jell-O.

What’s your movie? ;)

5 Reasons Why You MUST Watch Sumolah

May 17, 2007 Leave a comment

If Afdlin didn’t write to appeal, I would have written this anyway. I truly enjoyed the movie. At first I thought macam slow and bosan.. but makin lama makin menarik. I watched the movie on the 2nd day of its opening. The cinema was almost empty. I felt good at first sbb rasa macam I chartered the whole cinema. Boleh gelak beriya-iya. However, at the end of the movie I thought, ruginya wayang ni kosong. This is a good movie. A very good one, in fact. Bukan Afdlin je yang rugi, korang pon lagi rugi.

So, why shouldn’t you miss this movie? Since I think in 5s and 10s.. here’s my 5 Reasons. But of course, there are more.

1. You can watch a Thai conquer (or at least seems like it) 3 languages at one go (Malay, English and Japanese) and none of them is her mother tongue.

2. You will see yourself or situations you have been in along the movie. Basically if not all, there will be at least some parts (or paling busuk one) along the way that you can relate to.

3. It’s a colloboration of many countries (Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand.. maybe Japan). Made in Malaysia.

4. There are so many lessons to be learned along the way. Serious!

5. Support your local film industry… because if it’s not you, some "Brad Who?" ain’t gonna do it either.

10 Stars of Cinta and What I Think of Their Performances

December 21, 2006 3 comments

1. Rahim Razali: maintained his reputation as a superb actor.. delivered a performance as expected by his viewers.
2. Fatimah Abu Bakar: have never seen her acted, only appearances in AF. But certainly ought to be a benchmark for all the new and kaku actresses. Oh I love her the best. Her emotions… best!
3. Eizlan Yusof: Kaku. Boroi. Unrealistic. No chemistry. Suggestion for replacement: Hairie Othman (equally kaku, but remember his performance in Puteri as prince? At least tak boroi), Fahrin Ahmad, Azhar Sulaiman… no, NOT Rosyam Nor..
4. Fasha Sandha: Lemau. But better as compared to Rita Rudani. But the character itself in writing needs some beefing up.
5. Rashidi Ishak: Okay.. no complains. But as a friend said, wujud ke lelaki as romantic as this these days, esp in Malaysia. If ada, likely to be… erm, not that straight…
6. Rita Rudani: Plastik! Her emotions do not seem real. Except for the part kat window tu je… Nothing to shout about either. Rather bland… tasteless. Suggestion for replacement: Vanida Imran (put Rita for that last scene tu je.. at least tak payah act. Sengih-sengih je), Sharifah Norhaslinda (tua sikit, xpe), Nasha (boleh gak jadi plastik, but ada hope lah compared to Rita), Eja?
7: Que Haidar: Good performance. Less speech, but a lot of emotions. See, good actors/actresses need not talk so much.. They ACT.. my third best favorite performance.
8. Nanu: Second best, after Fatimah Abu Bakar. She deserves a nomination for one of those awards.
9: Pierre Andre: Okay, people say he is kaku here. But in my opinion (one without the right qualification to judge), the character was meant to be that way. Mahu tapi segan.. bukan malu. Hopeless and just going through a motion… And I believed he delivered it well. Maybe some will say not much difference from his previous characters… but orang offer yang macam tu je, nak buat macam mana… (alamak, jadi PA defender lak.. heheh)
10: Sharifah Amani: Yes, I have to agree too… not much difference from Orked. She might want to move away from these roles… long hair. But if not her, sape nak play this character? Like I said before, it has her name attached to the role. She’s better at playing roles her age (as compared to Gubra).
